Eating Healthy and Hair Loss

Hair loss is one of those things that happens to millions of people, but when it happens to you, you may feel all alone. When you first begin noticing hair loss being more than normal, you may do one of two things; either you will panic and think you may be going bald, or you will pass it off as being temporary and possibly do nothing about it. Either extreme is not going to solve the problem, and either extreme may actually make the hair loss increase, or get to a point that is difficult to end it.

You have an increased risk of experiencing hair loss if you have a genetic predisposition to it. Even then, though, there are things you can do that will make it more likely that you won’t experience it, and if you do that it will be more mild than it would otherwise.

Healthy living has a lot to do with whether hair loss will occur, and to what extent. There are many facets to healthy living, and taking a look at a few of them may give you an idea of lifestyle changes that you can make to increase your chances of keeping a great head of hair, or even ending hair loss if it has already begun.

One of the areas that has an enormous impact on your health, your skin, and your hair, is diet. With the common American diet being very high in simple carbohydrates, high in fat, and high in high calorie, but low nutritional value foods, the amount of vitamins, minerals, and herbs that is necessary to be as healthy as possible, is almost impossible to get by following such a diet. One way to combat and change this is to change your eating habits.

Switching from simple carbohydrates to complex carbohydrates will make a big difference in the amount of vitamins and minerals you get. It will also make a difference in the amount of sugar and white flour you eat. With those things building up toxins in the body, which can result in skin problems and hair problems, as well as health problems. Instead, if you try eating whole grains such as whole wheat bread, brown rice, and oats, you will be adding minerals, vitamins, and fiber that will help rid your body of toxins.

Another thing that will make a difference in your overall health, as well as your hair health, is to switch from a high fat diet to a low, healthier fat diet. Certain oils, such as olive oil and canola oil, offer more nutrient quality that corn oil, vegetable oil, margarine, and butter. With the benefits of helping lower cholesterol levels, increase heart health, and make your fat intake healthier, it will also help with your hair health. It is necessary to eat some oil, but the key is making sure the fat you eat is healthy for you.

You can also switch from eating high fat meats to low fat cuts. This will cut down on the animal fat, and help you get the protein, iron, and other nutrients that are found in meat. When you eat leaner cuts of meat, you are also cutting down a lot on your overall fat intake, which will be a healthier way of life.

Taking supplements to make sure you are having all your nutritional needs met is another thing that you can do to live healthy and prevent hair loss. When you begin to make lifestyle changes, it may take a few months before you see much change in your hair health, but it should become healthier, along with the rest of you.
