Causes of Hair Loss

According to a recent news story, studies across the board by several different leading scientists show that hair loss is on the rise in both men in women. The loss crosses all socioeconomic barriers and also shows up in Western and in non-Western cultures. While it may be impossible to spot one single culprit, it is thought to be a combination of a stressful, on-the-go lifestyle combined with people the world over mistreating their hair.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that stress is one of the most powerful causes of hair loss. Stress is thought to be one of the main factors in everything from heart disease to ulcers and just about everything in between. It is essentially impossible to properly quantify the number of abnormalities that are brought on by stress each and every year. The scientists in these studies showed a strong correlation between thyroid disease and missing hair. Thyroid disease is thought to be a condition almost exclusively brought on by stress.

There is also thought to be a connection between women who use an excessive amount of hair products in their hair each and every day and damage being done to the follicle that could cause hair to fall out and not grow back. Again, common sense should tell most people that when they constantly tease and manipulate their hair with chemicals every day of their adult lives, there are going to be repercussions occurring down the road. While it is not known if any one particular hair product is one of the major causes of hair loss, it is believed that a combination of chemicals over a span of decades is what causes the lion’s share of damage.

The message is clear: those who can reduce the amount of stress in their lives and also reduce the amount of torture they put their hair through have a much better chance of keeping all of it later on in life.
