Male hair loss is often counted in individual hairs left on a comb, the number of hairs we leave in the shower drain and the occasional hairs that stick to the bar of soap we’re using. We notice hair loss every time we run our hands through our hair and every time someone special does it, too. At a certain age, we begin to notice these minor shedding incidents even more than we did before, and it is at that time that we finally begin to wonder if the hair loss is serious enough to cause worry.
Many men rely on their loved ones to speak up and let them know what the deal is. If your wife cleans the bathroom and finds a veritable carpet there, we know she’ll tell us, but until then, we assume everything is fine.
A recent study tried to answer the question of how much hair was too much in terms of male hair loss, and although these findings are simply the results of one group of people, it gives us an idea of how many hairs we really so lose in a day.
The groups of men in the study were divided up into two groups: a younger group and an older group. The younger group was made up of men aged 20-40 while the older group were men aged 41-60. It showed that members of the younger group shed almost the exact same amount of hair during the same tests as the older group, much to the surprise of everyone there. What does this mean exactly? The short answer is to stop worrying about every hair that comes out on your hand or in the shower until you can see your own bald spot.
While this test has gone to show that men all seem to lose their hair at the same speed once they get to be an adult, it likely won’t stop men from fretting and worrying that more serious problems are just over the horizon.
