Hair Count for Your Hair Loss Exam

One of the things that makes losing  hair so frustrating is that we have no real way to tell how much hair we are losing or if the amount we see in the shower drain each morning is normal or not. Scientists have been working to answer this very question themselves and they think that they have stumbled upon an answer. Take your favorite comb or brush and use it on your head for 60 seconds. Once you are finished, count the number of hairs that are left in the brush and the answer might tell you if you are experiencing normal hair loss or if you are on the verge of losing your hair for good.

For years, scientists have believed that a loss of 100 hairs per day is normal, assuming the normal head of hair contains over 10,000 strands of hair. If you can count significantly more than 10 strands of hair in your brush, than you might be on the verge of experiencing a problem, although you should keep in mind things like how tangled your hair was when you brushed and how hard you combed or brushed your hair. According to the tests, older folks lost more than 10 while younger folks usually lost right around 10 or a little bit less.

It is important to keep in mind that this research is very new, and you might simply have mornings where you shed a few more hairs than you would otherwise. If you perform this test once and you count 20 hairs, it isn’t time to panic. However, if you try this test 10 mornings in a row and you count 20 hairs or more after 60 seconds, than you might want to begin looking toward the best hair loss remedy options.
